Dont Do it! The 5202 Mistake

We have been receiving a lot of phone calls/Emails regarding this error that can do some major damage. For the record we creating this for information purposes so you may make the best decision when it comes to choosing your Fog Light HID kit.

On average i would say we get 2-3 phone calls a day regarding whats safe to run in smaller 5202 Housings, For the simples answer: We have experienced great success with 25 wattage ballast using the 5202 or H16 HID bulbs. Read it again if needed (We will wait :)) . With that being said there is no guarantee that you still wont come out with hazing and or burning to your housings. We have had some situations (2 situations that we know of) where even when they put 25 Watt Ballast there was still burning to the chrome surface. But when we dug deeper into the situation and saw that Moisture could have played a role in them burning.

“But I have ran 35 watt in my fog lights with no problem”

As this may be true, you are one of the lucky ones that have had no issues. In our eyes and from my personal experience I will never recommend this set up for you. These Ballast generate way to much heat coming off the bulb for them to escape the housings fast enough. The only fog light that this should be safe in is some of the newer GMC Sierra and Squared Chevy Silverado Housings. The Sierra Housings are pretty big and should be able to handle the heat, along with the Squared Chevy Silverado Housings. But again this is done upon your own risk.

“Ok Dude…you scared me away from a HID kit, what else can I use?”

Sorry if i did scare anyone away from the thought or idea of a HID Kit in your fog lights but truth be told, Its something that is very due able with minimal risk with a 25 watt Ballast kit but there are no guarantees. If you didnt want to go that route and wanted to try something different we always have our standard 18 SMD Chip 5202/H16 LED bulb or you could upgrade to the high powered 50 Watt Cree LED Bulbs with projector head. These two are great for added visual appearance, but will have to warn the light output performance wise will not be there.

“So what you trying to say with all this?”

The point is, is that all aftermarket parts that you install you do upon your own risk. If you go with our recommendations and stick with the 25 watt outputs on these kits you’ll be more then likely fine. Dont be scared, we have sold more then enough of these kits to be close to 100% that nothing will happen. There are some of those cases but other factors come into play.

HIDGuy – Taking Lighting to the next level..

In a market where cheap aftermarket auto parts flood the market, it can be very hard and time consuming to find some to trust. Dont get us wrong, there are many vendors / Companies that are very reputable. But in this market price and quality play a prime role in buyer decisions. It is true you get what you pay for; most items manufactured in this day age are made with low quality parts, molds, or poor craftsmanship. But some how still seem to make it into the feed of aftermarket parts sold. This is where HIDGuy rose to the occasion and set out to break the boundaries of price vs quality. Based out of San Diego California and around since 2006, HIDGuy as a whole set out to bring only quality aftermarket Lighting. Starting with superior quality HID Kits and working up to LED bulbs, Halo projector headlights, LED Tail lights and later all aftermarket parts that were possible to get. After a few set backs and revamps was force to go back to basics and focus on the one thing we need best…AUTOMOTIVE LIGHTING. Now Perfecting our HID and LED line, we have now ventured into halo, projector retro fits and projectors that no one dares to take on.
